War

"We make war so that we may live in peace." Aristotle said this. Aristotle was a nice guy, a philosopher, one who figured out different things that had to do with science, math, life. Lucky for his pupils, he was nothing like Genghis Khan, who once said, "My greatest good fortune was to chase and defeat my enemies, conquer his lands, and share his riches." Hmmm...that's a little...cold, wouldn't you say?

War has been a part of life since Cain killed his brother Abel, in the Bible. I was thinking about making another page for violence, but decided I could do that here too. So this is war and violence.

Why does mankind feel the need and desire to prove one's dominance over another? Several things are the culprit for this. Greed is one. For ages and ages, people have wanted more land. Look at Iraq and Pakistan. They've been fighting for thousands of years and hardly remember exactly what it is that started it. Opposing religions are also to blame, as people simply can't accept the fact that someone is choosing to worship to someone different than themselves.

Dominance is a large part, too. What do boxers do, for instance? They fight to prove who's the better fighter. Who can take the most damage, and who can dish it out.

With the national situations the way they are currently, in March of 2003, I felt it was appropriate to make a page on it. Right now, the entire world has a cumulative amount of nuclear weapons and explosives to destroy the world numerous times. Wow, what an accomplishment, huh? The means to accomplish mass genocide? Everyone works on developing smaller, more devastating explosives so that they can prove they are the super power. What the hell is wrong with people?!

The United States...I don't agree with the way some countries treat us, and I don't agree with the way we treat other countries. We've butted in where we didn't belong, Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East...wars that we had no part in yet got involved in because we feel we should get the credit for being the peace-keepers.

But then there's the countries who have flat out threatened us and our ideals because they were not shared by them. Iraq is toying with us, with their weapons, and want us to attack so they can blast us back. Ooo, kids, look...let's test out our new toys on our neighbors down the street.

To tell you the truth, I'm scared. If this is the beginning of a World War 3, we may lose some allies and gain some enemies who may just pound our asses. A lot of people would die that don't deserve it.

Now, I'm not a pacifist. I have had fights, and have almost gotten in fights even recently. I play violent video games, like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Mortal Kombat. I watch gory movies. While war may sometimes be necessary, like when Hitler began his purge of the human race, most times it should be avoidable, and I don't believe war is a good thing ever. It's a continuation of the human race showing how, despite all our technological advancements and increased intelligence, we're still as barbaric as so long ago.
